12.00 noon on Tuesday 5th - 14.15 on Thursday 7th August 2008

University of Cumbria, Newton rigg Campus, Penrith, Cumbria, CA11 0AH
Tel: 01768 893431 (Conference Office), Fax:  01768 893432

The University of Cumbria, Newton Rigg Campus is set in 200 acres of rural countryside and located 1.5 miles just off J40 of the M6 and within approximately 2 hours of Liverpool, Glasgow, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Manchester International Airports and Durham Tees Valley airport. Our local train station at Penrith is just a short 5 minute taxi ride away.

By Road:

Leave the motorway at junction 40.  At the roundabout: if traveling from the North take the first exit, if from the South take the third exit, the road is signposted A592 Penrith (Ullswater).  Keep in the left hand lane and at the mini roundabout take the first exit left (following signs for Newton Rigg) through an industrial estate to the T-junction.  Turn left onto the B5288 (Greystoke Road), crossing over the M6, then take the first right onto Newton Road.  The campus is located approximately half a mile along on the right hand side.

By Rail:

Penrith is on the main west coast rail line.  There is a further choice of cross national routes, which call at Carlisle 22 miles away and have frequent rail connections to Penrith.  It is a five minute taxi ride from the station to the campus.

By Air:

The closest airports to Penrith are Manchester International Airport or Newcastle International Airport, Durham Tees Valley.  Visit their websites for information on the layout of the airport, bus and train services, etc. Manchester Airport has a train station (information) inside the airport, where you can buy train tickets to Penrith (North Lakes).

At Newcastle airport, you can take the Metro train directly to Newcastle Central train station, and from there take a train to Penrith (North Lakes).  The Metro leaves the airport approximately every 20 minutes, the journey to Penrith (North Lakes) will take approximately 2 hours.  However, you may get a cheaper ticket if you book in advance, and the ticket office is not open 24/7, so you may prefer to pre-book your train ticket. You can check train times and book your rail tickets on line using Virgin Trains or National Rail; the journey should take around 2 hours.

Note: If your flight is scheduled to arrive in the evening, you should ensure that there will be a train service to Penrith (North Lakes), or make arrangements to stay overnight local to the airport.  If you prefer to take a bus/coach from the airport, visit National Express website.

When you arrive at Penrith (North Lakes) train station, and you are accommodated on-campus you need to take a Taxi to the campus.  Taxis are usually waiting outside the station (during the day).  If you need to telephone for a taxi when you arrive, try (01768) 866633, (01768) 899066 or (01768) 863354.  The journey should take approximately 5 minutes.  The drivers will be familiar with the University, but make sure you say ‘University of Cumbria Newton Rigg Campus'.  Other taxi numbers - Acclaim Taxis, Penrith, 01768 866842. Eden Taxis, Clifton, Penrith, 01768 528571

We would not recommend that you walk to Newton Rigg Campus, please always take a taxi as walking would take 30/40 minutes.
