by Rasmus Fogh last modified 2008-10-02 12:47

Agenda and minutes of 2008 CCPN Assembly meeting.

Chair & secretary: Brian Smith
Present: more than 15 members of the assembly

1/ Update on the status of the CCPN. Progress on data model and software development along with inter-operation with other extend-NMR and EU-NMR partners had been previously presented by Tim Stevens earlier in the day. It was anounced that further funding for the CCPN team would be sought from the BBSRC in the January round of applications. Members' attention was drawn to the upcoming Berlin meeting on the 27th-29th October.

2/ Proposal for changes to the CCPN charter. The previously circulated proposed changes to the charter were briefly introduced. Objections to the proposals were invited and in the absence of any the changes to the charter were approved by the assembly nem con.

3/ AOB. The chairman brought the current plight of the BMRB to the members' attention. David Neuhaus had written to the chair and other members of the community soliciting letters of support that would strengthen the BMRB's case with the NIH/National Library of Medicine. The chairman proposed that he write a letter on behalf or the CCPN assembly. The motion was passed. Members also requested that details of DN's letter be circulated so that they might add their individual support.

The chair invited Ernest Laue to initiate a discussion of how NMR spectrometer costs appeared on research grant applications. A wide-ranging  discussion ensued with a broad consensus being that the existing situation  was rather unsatisfactory and that grant reviewers should be aware that

the way NMR costs appear on applications is largely goverened by the way that different institutions' finance officers interpret the funding  council rules. The consensus of opinion was that it would be useful to  gather information about how NMR costs were calculated and priced in
different institutions and to try to seek guidance from, and/or influence the funding councils in this matter. The chairman undertook to look into gathering this information and initiating discussions.
