Python is a high-level general purpose computer language capable of object-orientation and scripting (like Perl). It is a very powerful language but one of the easiest to learn and use. Python is being used more and more in bioinformatics software.
This is a hands-on beginners' course. The only prerequisite for the course is an ability to edit files and run commands on a Linux machine. You will learn how to run Python and how to write simple scripts. No previous knowledge or experience of Python is assumed.
This course is being run in combination with a 1 day Python bioinformatics course, scheduled for the next day. Although separate, this introductory course provides a sufficient background for participants to consider attending the following bioinformatics course.
None of our current courses requires you to bring your own computer. However, if you want to bring a laptop and have it online we can arrange access via the University Lapwing wireless service.
